Best Caribbean Golf
Itineraries
The Caribbean offers enough world-class courses to fill weeks of golf travel, but most serious golfers work with 4–7 nights. Here are the itineraries that deliver the most golf quality per day of travel.
Itinerary #1: The Ultimate DR
5-Night Golf Trip
Base: Cap Cana (Villa Espada or Punta Espada Villa) — Fly into: Punta Cana (PUJ)
This is the most recommended Caribbean golf itinerary. The Dominican Republic's two greatest courses — Punta Espada and Teeth of the Dog — are both accessible on a single trip, and staying inside Cap Cana puts you steps from Punta Espada with an easy 90-minute drive to Casa de Campo.
- Day 1 — Arrive: Fly into Punta Cana, 15-minute transfer to villa in Cap Cana. Afternoon beach time or practice round at the driving range.
- Day 2 — Punta Espada: Morning tee time at Punta Espada Golf Course. Afternoon at the villa or Cap Cana beach club.
- Day 3 — La Cana: Morning round at La Cana Golf Course at the Puntacana Resort. 4 oceanfront holes and a more relaxed pace.
- Day 4 — Teeth of the Dog: Early departure for Casa de Campo. Morning round at Teeth of the Dog — allow a full day including travel. Return to Cap Cana by evening.
- Day 5 — Punta Espada Replay: The natural finale. Replay Punta Espada with everything you've learned about its wind patterns and shot shapes. Most golfers shave 4–6 shots on the replay.
- Day 6 — Depart: Morning transfer to Punta Cana airport.
Accommodation: Villa Espada at Cap Cana offers everything needed for this itinerary — private pool, chef service, and villa staff to handle all tee time bookings.
Itinerary #2: Cap Cana Only —
4-Night Focused Golf Trip
Base: Cap Cana — Fly into: Punta Cana (PUJ, 15 min)
- Day 1 — Arrive & Settle: Short transfer from PUJ. Afternoon practice round or villa time.
- Day 2 — Punta Espada: Morning round at Punta Espada. This deserves your freshest legs — play it first.
- Day 3 — La Cana: Morning round at La Cana. 4 oceanfront holes, enjoyable resort course, different feel from Punta Espada.
- Day 4 — Punta Espada Replay: Your second round at Punta Espada with better local knowledge.
- Day 5 — Depart.
Perfect for groups who want maximum golf with minimum travel. The two Cap Cana courses are easily walkable from a villa base. Villa Espada or Punta Espada Villa are both ideal for this format.
Itinerary #3: Jamaica Golf —
5-Night Rose Hall
Base: Rose Hall / Montego Bay — Fly into: Montego Bay (MBJ)
- Day 1 — Arrive: Montego Bay is 10 minutes from Rose Hall. Easy arrival, afternoon beach.
- Day 2 — White Witch: Morning round at White Witch — Jamaica's finest course. Dramatic mountain fairways and ocean views.
- Day 3 — Cinnamon Hill: Rose Hall's more accessible companion course. Different vibe, great value.
- Day 4 — White Witch Replay: Essential. White Witch rewards local knowledge generously.
- Day 5 — Half Moon Golf Club: Robert Trent Jones Sr. classic at Half Moon Resort. Three nine-hole loops offer variety.
- Day 6 — Depart.
Budgeting for a
Caribbean Golf Trip
Caribbean golf is an investment, but knowing the realistic costs helps you plan without surprises.
- Green Fees: Top courses (Teeth of the Dog, Punta Espada) run $280–$400 per round. Mid-tier courses $150–$250. Budget $1,200–$1,800 for 5 rounds.
- Caddies: Mandatory or strongly recommended at premier courses. Budget $40–60 USD per round including tip.
- Villa Rental: A premium villa like Villa Espada typically costs $800–$2,000 per night depending on season, sleeping 4–10 guests. Split between a group of 6–8, this is extremely competitive with hotel rates.
- Flights: Round-trip from US East Coast to PUJ typically $400–$700. Business class doubles this.
- Food & Incidentals: With in-villa chef service, food costs are predictable. Budget $100–150 USD per person per day for incidentals, drinks, and lunch at the course.
- Total Budget: Expect $3,000–$6,000 USD per person for a well-organised 5-night DR golf trip with villa accommodation. Premium experiences (top villa, business class) can reach $8,000–$12,000 per person.
Booking Tee Times —
What You Need to Know
The top Caribbean courses — particularly Teeth of the Dog and Punta Espada — give priority access to resort guests and villa residents. This is the single most important reason to stay inside the resort. Day visitor tee times at Teeth of the Dog can be impossible to secure without a resort connection.
- Book 60–90 days ahead for peak season (December–March). Teeth of the Dog in particular fills up months in advance.
- Morning tee times are essential — Caribbean afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer. Even in winter, mornings are cooler and the light is better.
- Let your villa concierge handle it — Villa staff at properties like Villa Espada know the booking systems and have relationships with the pro shops. Use them.
