Dominican Republic Golf Trip Planning Guide
The Dominican Republic is the Caribbean's best golf destination, but planning a DR golf trip requires more thought than a standard beach holiday. Tee time access, airport choices, island geography, and villa selection all require advance planning.
Step 1: Choose Your Courses
For most golfers, the DR is about Teeth of the Dog and Punta Espada. Both are in different resort areas (La Romana and Cap Cana respectively), so your itinerary needs to account for travel between them. A 5-night trip can comfortably include both with time for replay rounds. See our full DR golf itineraries guide.
Step 2: Choose Your Base
Cap Cana (Punta Espada) and Casa de Campo (Teeth of the Dog) are 90 minutes apart. Most golfers base at Cap Cana — at Villa Espada — and day-trip to Casa de Campo. This maximises Punta Espada access while still getting Teeth of the Dog in the itinerary.
Step 3: Book Tee Times Early
Punta Espada and Teeth of the Dog both give priority to resort guests. Book 60–90 days ahead during peak season (November–April). Let villa staff at Villa Espada handle tee time bookings — they know the system and have relationships with the pro shops.
Step 4: Fly the Right Airport
For Cap Cana, fly into Punta Cana (PUJ) — 15 minutes from the villa. For Casa de Campo only, La Romana (LRM) is 15 minutes away. Punta Cana has many more direct US and Canadian routes.
