Why Caddies Are Essential at Caribbean Courses

At Teeth of the Dog and Punta Espada, caddies are either mandatory or strongly recommended — not as a revenue exercise, but because they genuinely improve your experience. These men (and occasional women) know every wind shift, every pin position, every slope on the greens. At Teeth of the Dog in particular, the seven ocean holes play completely differently depending on whether the trade wind is at 10mph or 25mph, and only a caddie who works there daily can help you navigate that.

Caribbean Caddie Fees & Tips

• Caddie fee: Usually $25–40 USD per round (paid to the resort)
• Tip: $30–50 USD for a good caddie. $60–80 for an exceptional one who reads greens perfectly and saves you multiple shots.
• Forecaddie: Some courses use forecaddies (one caddie for two or more players). Same tip etiquette applies.
